Our mission is to give honor and glory to the Triune God, to carry out His will, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world, to manifest the unity of our faith in Jesus Christ as God and Savior, to foster Christian fellowship and love, to extend a helping hand to human need, and to achieve its objectives by the preaching of the Word of God, by the administration of the sacraments, and by the religious instruction of all its members according to the confessional standard of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A group of far-sighted Christian Negro women from the 3 X 10 Club desired to help in the development of a Christian Day School. They succeeded in influencing the board of the American Lutheran Church to establish the school in 1917. By the end of 1918, the enrollment had increased so rapidly that another structure was built and more teachers were added.
On July 30, 1947, the people voted to incorporate as Christ Lutheran Church. Construction started in February 1948. October 24th and 25th 1948, the new church building was dedicated to the glory of God. Reverend W. C. Sowell succeeded serving the parish from 1950 -1961.
It was during this ministry that the congregation voted to affiliate with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Today, the church maintains its presence in the community it loves by promoting the Word through works and deed. Christ Lutheran is rich in history, support, and love.
Rev. Dr. McNair Ramsey, known to all of his friends and schoolmates as Tony, is the second oldest of seven children. At an early age in life, his now-sainted grandmother Emily declared (one might say decreed) him through the words: “This boy is going to be a preacher.” The Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit, enabled those words to come true.
Through dedicated studies in Lutheran Christian elementary schools, high school, and college as well as in secular universities, Pastor Ramsey became the first of his family to achieve a college education, earning his Educational Doctorate. He has used his blessings to assist others by serving in schools in Indiana, Michigan, California, and Alabama.
He is married to JoAnn Abner, and they are blessed with three daughters, five grandchildren, and two sons-in-law. All glory and praise be given to the Lord as He continues to bestow His blessings upon Pastor Ramsey and Christ Lutheran Church.
